Pyriproxyfen, a juvenile hormone analog, is a potent chitin synthesis inhibitor with strong ovicidal properties. It is highly effective against pests such as the sweet potato whitefly and scale insects. When adult female sweet potato whiteflies are exposed to cotton leaves treated with 5 ppm pyriproxyfen, they produce non-viable eggs within 48 hours. Even when these females are transferred to untreated leaves, the insecticide’s effect persists for up to six days. Treating second-instar larvae with 0.05-5.00 ppm pyriproxyfen completely inhibits their emergence as adults.

Long-lasting and Versatile Pest Management

Pyriproxyfen 10 ec also exhibits systemic translocation activity, affecting larvae hidden on the undersides of leaves. For hygiene pests like mosquitoes and flies, the late fourth instar larvae are particularly susceptible. Low doses of pyriproxyfen cause death during the pupal stage and inhibit adult formation. For example, treating houseflies with 0.3 ppm pyriproxyfen results in a 10% inhibition of pupal emergence. Pyriproxyfen’s insecticidal activity surpasses that of buprofezin and fenoxycarb, with residual effects lasting over a month.

It is primarily used to control public health pests such as mosquitoes, flies, midges, and fleas. Its granular formulations can be directly applied to sewage ponds or spread evenly over breeding grounds, offering convenient and effective pest management solutions.
