Pyriproxyfen, a juvenile hormone analog, serves as a potent chitin synthesis inhibitor with strong ovicidal properties. It effectively targets pests such as the sweet potato whitefly and scale insects. When adult female sweet potato whiteflies encounter cotton leaves treated with 5 ppm pyriproxyfen, they produce non-viable eggs within 48 hours. Remarkably, even after transferring these females to untreated leaves, the insecticide’s effects persist for up to six days. Additionally, treating second-instar larvae with 0.05-5.00 ppm pyriproxyfen completely prevents their emergence as adults.
Long-lasting and Versatile Pest Management
Pyriproxyfen 10 EC also exhibits systemic translocation activity, impacting larvae hidden on the undersides of leaves. For hygiene pests like mosquitoes and flies, late fourth instar larvae show high susceptibility. Low doses of pyriproxyfen can lead to death during the pupal stage while inhibiting adult formation. For instance, treating houseflies with 0.3 ppm pyriproxyfen results in a 10% inhibition of pupal emergence. Pyriproxyfen’s insecticidal activity surpasses that of buprofezin and fenoxycarb, with residual effects lasting over a month.
This insecticide primarily targets public health pests such as mosquitoes, flies, midges, and fleas. Its granular formulations can be directly applied to sewage ponds or spread evenly over breeding grounds, providing convenient and effective pest management solutions.
